Christening Checklist

  • Christening candle – for use during ceremonial prayers
  • Booklet for church service/mass (sometimes required)
  • Flowers for church service (sometimes required)
  • Reserve reception venue for celebration/or home
    • Guest list
    • Invitations
    • Menu
    • Decorations
    • Bonbonniere
  • Photographs
  • Order Christening cake
    • Christening knife – It is a lovely idea for this knife to be the one used for family celebrations such the cutting of a wedding cake or birthday cakes.
  • Make accommodation arrangements for guests coming from out of town
  • Baby’s clothing for the day:
    • Christening gown or robe
    • Matching shoes and bonnet/cap
    • Socks or stockings
    • Singlet
    • Bib – an important accessory as this helps to protect the bodice of the gown from stains if you are wanting to treasure your baby’s gown as a family heirloom
    • Wrap or blanket – A baby’s body is more susceptible to temperate change and a lightweight blanket or shawl is ideal
    • Small towel – used to wipe the water or oil from the baby’s head after the ceremony
    • Change of clothing for baby after the official ceremony and photographs – to allow your baby to feel comfortable for the rest of the celebration
  • Special keepsakes
    • Memory/photo album - a place for pictures of baby’s special day
    • Special bible
    • Picture frame – with photo of the special event
    • Christening bracelet – can become part of baby's wedding bouquet
    • Bonnet/hankie – turns into a hankie for baby’s wedding day
    • Christening headband
    • Heirloom keepsake box
